On a three-to-two vote, the Jamestown City Council authorized an amended draft agreement stripping the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation of all decision-making power in regard to its policies or procedures.
Mayor Liechty offered the amendment. Council members Parisien and Grabinger spoke in favor of the amendment and voted for it.
Council members Heinrich and Schulz opposed the action. Schulz called the move "heavy handed" and accused the majority of seeking to "dictate" policy and procedures for the Development Corporation.
Council member Grabinger noted the Development Corporation is a private entity serving in an advisory, not a governing, capacity. Council member Parisien argued that the city and county are ultimately responsible for economic development decisions.
