CARRINGTON, N.D. (Gretchen Hjelmstad) – The Carrington Fire Department is partnering with the American Red Cross to provide free smoke alarms to anyone in the Carrington community who needs them.

We want to make sure every home has working smoke alarms and we are proud to be part of this partnership to make that happen,” said Lynn Speral, CEO of the American Red Cross Dakotas Region.

To request a free smoke alarm, go to getasmokealarm.org or text “alarm” to 844-811-0100. After submitting your request, you will be contacted by the Red Cross with information for installation.

Members of the Red Cross, the Carrington Volunteer Fire Department and other community partners will be installing smoke alarms on Saturday, April 8. All requests for installations must be made by Tuesday, April 4.

We think to check smoke alarms in the spring and fall, but never think about when to replace them. This event will ensure homes in our community have working smoke alarms,” said Carrington Fire Chief Ken Wangen.

If residents have questions about this event, they can call the Carrington Fire Hall at (701) 652-2113 and leave a message. If you don’t live in Carrington, but need a smoke alarm, you can request one at getasmokealarm.org and a Red Cross representative will contact you about installation on a later date.
