RUGBY, ND - A fatal crash early Monday has killed a 41-year-old Rugby, ND man.
North Dakota Highway Patrol Sargent Joe Knowski reports the man was stopped as if waiting for the train on the south side of the tracks on Main Street in Rugby at 12:16 a.m. Monday. The man accelerated his Chevrolet Equinox and went around the barricade in front of the train. The train struck the passenger side of the Equinox and the driver was ejected and died at the scene.
Two BNSF employees on the train were not hurt. Knowski says the barricades were down with flashing lights. The train was traveling 40-45 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
The man's name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The crash remains under investigation.
