JAMESTOWN - A standoff in Jamestown that was initially reported as a person threatening self-harm ended with a Jamestown man accused of domestic assault.

Police Chief Scott Edinger says officers were called to the 300 block of 3rd Street NW at 9:09 a.m. Tuesday.  A call to the Stutsman County Communications Center reported an individual was threatening to hurt themselves.  Edinger said there were indications that a medical situation was also involved.

Police closed off the block.  The Anne Carlsen Center and the South Central Human Service Center went into lock down in order to prevent loitering in their parking lots as people attempted to view the situation.

In the course of the welfare check, officers attempted to communicate with Brandon Haugen, 31, of Jamestown.  At about 12:25 p.m., officers entered the house and found Haugen had exited at some point. Upon further investigation, it was determined he may have committed assault on a family member.

Edinger says the subsequent search ended just before 2:00 p.m. when Haugen was found at a location outside of city limits.  He was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic assault without further incident.
