American Legion Post Seeking to Help Students Connected to Vets

DICKINSON - An American Legion chapter in Dickinson, ND is seeking to help students who are affiliated with veterans.
Tom Coons, District 8 Commander and assistant director for Chapter #3 American Legion Riders says in a press release that the Riders went on a 750-mile motorcycle ride last summer.  The purpose was to raise donations for scholarships to be awarded to North Dakota students who have a connection with a veteran.
Coons says the group awarded seven $500 scholarships in the first year of the project.  Their goal is to continue raising funds each year in order pass out more and larger scholarships in the future.
To qualify for a Matthew Brew/North Dakota Legacy Scholarship, a candidate must be a North Dakota resident, enrolled in some form of continued education. and must be the son, or daughter, of a military member, Wounded Warrior, Disabled Vet, a survivor of a member of the military Killed-in-Action.
Seven $500 scholarships will be awarded in the middle of the enrolled student's second semester.  Completed applications are due by April 15, 2017.
