JAMESTOWN – Students at St. John’s Academy in Jamestown got to hear from a world-renowned motivational speaker on Tuesday.
Miss America 2018 Cara Mund spoke to an assembly of students about setting goals, working hard and persevering through challenges in order to achieve one’s dreams. She asked the students if they had ever worked hard to achieve a goal, had ever done community service, had ever dreamed of doing something big?
“Coming from North Dakota, I never expected to become Miss America. I always set these goals for myself and I knew I could attain them, but, for some reason, they never seemed quite big enough. When I became Miss America, I realized at the end of the day, to just keep dreaming bigger and the only one who can really limit you, is yourself,” she said before her appearance.
“I told those judges in my interview at Miss America, ‘Don’t underestimate me because I come from a smaller state, or a state that may not have had this happen before. It doesn’t mean that I’m not qualified or the best contestant here for the job.’ “
“I hope these young children will realize that their limitations are only their own. The dreams they can set, they can achieve. Just keep dreaming bigger.”
Mund is a native of Bismarck, North Dakota. She has said before that one of her long-term goals is to become the first woman elected governor of the state.
