Ellendale, ND – The Dickey County Commission has instituted the counties Burn Ban and Burn Guidance for 2018.
According to Charlie Russell, Dickey County Emergency Manager, “We will be following the same burn guidance, we have in the last 4-5 years which has worked out well for us. NO burning in Dickey County when the ND Fire Index is Very High or Extreme or on days which the NWS issues RED FLAG wind warnings. You may burn other days.”

FIRE EMERGENCY AND BURN BAN PLAN
WHEREAS: the lack snow, warm temperatures and high winds have allowed for excessive dry down of fuels leading to the chance of catastrophic wild fires and;
WHEREAS: Our Fire Departments remain committed to protecting the life and property of our residents and the financial impact of these fires can easily overwhelm their resources, and;
WHEREAS: The sheer number and types of these potential fires will cause inordinate equipment wear and equipment damage which may be far in excess of our county’s resources, and;
WHEREAS: The success of the burn plan and its early implementation has been a proven asset in reducing the occurrence and severity of wildfire in Dickey County and protecting our citizens with minimum inconvenience,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that The Dickey County Commission declares that a FIRE Emergency and Burn Ban Plan (to include a ban on campfires and garbage burning) be implemented, effective immediately, and to remain in effect when the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger is in the VERY HIGH or EXTREME index and/or a RED FLAG Warning has been issued for NORTH Dakota until further notice. THE PENALITY FOR VOILATION OF THIS BURN BAN IS A CLASS C MISDEMEANOR (NDCC 37-17.1-10.1: MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 30 DAYS IN JAIL AND A $1000 DOLLAR FINE).
