Another week, another round of my Top 5 High School Football games in North Dakota. Last week we seen a couple of upsets including #1 West Fargo Sheyenne being defeated on the road by #2 Bismarck, #5 Fargo Davies climbed up the poll after traveling up to #3 Minot and beating them. And #5 Devils Lake also got a road win defeating the #2 Jamestown Blue Jays vaulting them up the polls as well. Much like the NFL and College Football this season, no win is guaranteed, and we can think the same thing about this weeks games as well.
Here are my Top 5 Games this week of 9/20:
1. #1 Kindred @ #2 Central Cass (A)
-Kindred has been on a mission this season, and so has Central Cass. Central Cass has climbed its way up to the #2 spot after starting at #4, and will look to finish the climb this Friday when they take on the Vikings at home. The question I have asked all season so far is, who can slow down Kindred? We will find out tonight in the battle of the top two seeds.
2. #2 Fargo Davies @ #4 Mandan (AAA)
-Davies had hung around in the #5 spot in AAA for the first 4 weeks of the season. With a big road win in Minot this last week against the #3 team, Davies was awarded with the #2 seed after Bismarck defeated West Fargo Sheyenne. Mandan is coming off a good road win over Fargo North, and will look to make their case for a higher ranking in the state tonight with a top 3 team traveling to them. Can Fargo Davies keep their spot now that they finally moved in the polls, can Mandan make their case?
3. #4 Jamestown @ #1 Grand Forks Red River (AA)
-Jamestown got their first loss in frustrating fashion last week and will look to rebound, but in their way is the team they eliminated from the playoffs last season in a thriller and will have revenge on their mind. Red River has cruised the last couple of weeks including two 30+ point wins and a bye week, this time they will have a Top 5 test tonight, something they have not had to face yet this season, while Jamestown is working on its 4th straight week of facing a top 5 opponent. Will Red River pass this test? Or can Jamestown avoid losing 2 in a row?
4. #4 South Border @ #5 Linton-HMB (9-Man)
– A top 5 matchup in 9-man this week. Both teams having been rolling the last couple weeks, and one of these teams will be the #4 seed in the 9-man polls next week, while one may drop out with other teams trying to make their case to be included in the race as well. South Border has held the #4 spot the last couple of weeks, and Linton HMB will be looking to make the climb a little more since making the Top 5 two weeks ago. This game will also be our featured play by play game on sister station Mix 93.3.
5. #2 New Rockford Sheyenne Maddock @ Four Winds (9-Man)
-New Rockford could make a case for being the top team in 9-man football right now. But as we said before no win in guaranteed. The Rockets will travel to Four Winds tonight who are 3-1 on the season. New Rockford has had dominant showings, but in their way is a Four Winds team that is working on 3 straight wins after a beginning of the season loss to North Border, after that loss, Four Winds have beaten opponents by a margin of 110 – 22. Could we see a defensive stalemate tonight in Four Winds? Or will New Rockford continue to roll as they have since they start of the season?
