PAYTON GALL — Carson Theodore Quam, a former Cass County deputy, faces 10 counts of possessing child sex abuse materials. The charges were filed on Tuesday in Cass County District Court.
Quam possessed the materials between September 2021 and September 2024 on a cellphone, depicting children between the ages of 2 and 14. Quam has cooperated with investigators, and has no criminal history. Quam started working as a patrol officer for the Cass County Sherriff’s Office in December 2022, resigning in September, when the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation started looking into the allegations.
The BCI is also investigating former Deputy Darin Viken, and Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner said the alleged behavior of Quam and Viken has “caused a range of emotions for the staff from betrayal, frustration, embarrassment and anger.”
