North Dakota lawmakers have proposed new measures to protect migrating birds…but the bill will likely face headwinds in the full legislature.

The proposed resolution would establish a statewide Dark Sky Week and has bi-partisan support.   Dark Sky Week would be a non-binding encouragement for residents and businesses in the state to limit or turn off non-essential lighting during the designated time.

The resolution comes after the North Dakota Fish and Game Department issued a warning to residents to watch for sick or dead migrating geese, after many confirmed reports in the Jamestown Reservoir and elsewhere this winter.

A public hearing will be held on Senate Concurrent Resolution 4004 on Thursday in Bismarck.
