There may be a new casino coming near Grand Forks.
The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has been planning the casino for years, and they recently sent a letter of intent to the City of Grand Forks with their official proposal. The plans include what the Tribe describes as a entertainment venue and resort, with a casino, 200-room hotel, and commercial center built to the southwest of Grand Forks on nearly 150 acres.
The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is the largest tribe in the state, with over 31,000 members, and they also own the Sky Dancer Casino and Resort in Belcourt. Their leaders said in a statement that the Grand Forks multiplex will help ease economic challenges currently facing the tribe, and allow for expansion of schools, infrastructure, and social services they are currently unable to provide.
