The North Dakota House of Representatives unanimously passed legislation on Tuesday that is aimed to increase protections for students who have survived sexual assault.

House Bill 1247 would require schools to establish a “safety plan” for a student found guilty of sexual assault by ensuring the student has little or no contact with the victim. The guilty student could also be removed from the school entirely. If the guilty student is transferred to a new school, the school is supposed to be notified of the offense.

The Senate will now vote on the bill.
