The NFL honors were last night, and the Minnesota Vikings were represented well after their surprising 14-3 season and playoff appearance.
The first award won by the Vikings was the NFL’s “Celebration of the Year” which featured the team celebrating in the endzone during a game impersonating the iconic dance scene from the early 2000’s hit comedy ‘White Chicks.” Two Vikings players jumped up on stage to re-enact the scene, and made the fans realize its probably easier to do the celebration in pads compared to suits and ties.
The next award won was a big one, the leader of the franchise Kevin O’Connell took home the NFL’s “Coach of the Year Award” after exceeding expectations given to the team entering 2024. O’Connell was responsible for the career rebirth of Sam Darnold, and called an offense that was ranked in the top half of the league. O’Connell led the Vikings to 14 wins and just 3 losses in 2024, and also got the team to the playoffs. O’Connell like any coach made sure to thank his team for their efforts during the season, and also took the time to thank the Viking fans for their support also calling them the best fans in the league.
One other thing to note from the Vikings night at the NFL honors was the announcement of the 2025 Hall of Fame class, one former Vikings is on his way to Canton after a career of terrorizing backfields. Jared Allen was one of the four selected for the 2025 Hall of Fame Class. Allen played 12 years in the NFL, 6 of those years were with the Vikings where he finished with 85.5 sacks. Allen will join the likes of Alan Page, Carl Eller, and John Randle as Vikings defensive lineman in the Hall of Fame.
