Lawmakers are looking for $300 million to construct a new state hospital in Jamestown.
The hospital would provide psychiatric care and substance use rehabilitation services to people battling addiction and other bigger mental illnesses. North Dakota is experiencing a bed shortage for patients with mental health issues, and several officials have backed legislation for the facility.
The facility proposals and plan were made under House Bill 1012. The Human Services division of the House Appropriations Committee has been working with architects and state agencies to finalize the design and costs of the facility since the beginning of the 2025 legislative session.
