South Dakota Resolution 6008 would support the effort to bring Amtrak passenger rail service to the state. This resolution does not seek any state funding to support the service in South Dakota.
The proposed route would connect Denver and Minneapolis-St. Paul with a route that passes through Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls. South Dakota has not been considered by the Amtrak service list for years, but the Federal Railway Administration put the state on the latest list. It’s believed that if Amtrak moved into South Dakota, the group would use the existing rails laid down in the state to operate its trains.
The resolution is on the House Transportation Committee’s agenda for Tuesday.
