South Dakota House of Representatives split on prison project, fail House Bill 1025

South Dakota House Bill 1025 did not pass through a vote in the House on Monday, a bill which would help fund an incarceration construction fund that would move a billion-dollar prison project onward.

The South Dakota House tied 35-35 in its vote, forcing the bill to fail. In its original form, the bill gave clearance to the remaining funds to be transferred into the incarceration construction fund to begin construction in Lincoln County.

The state’s house may discuss further action on the prison project moving forward.
