A person died in Richland County on Sunday after their vehicle went through the ice on Grass Lake.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office reported that they were called to the lake for a welfare check of an overdue motorist. Officials say they conducted a search of the area when they arrived and found the vehicle in about 12 feet of water. The motorist was removed from the water and the Valley Water Rescue, Richland County Water Rescue, and ND Game and Fish helped conduct an underwater check of the vehicle.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy, but officials expect the cause to be a drowning. The case is still under investigation.
