As first reported by the Jamestown Sun, the Division B Girls State Tournament is shaping up to be a lucrative couple of days for Jamestown. The tournament runs Thursday through Saturday at the Jamestown Civic Center. According to Pam Fosse, Civic Center Director, last year’s tournament had a $1.4 million economic impact. 29% was spent on food and beverages, 22% on retail, 20% on transportation, 15% on lodging and 14% for recreation. Last year, the championship game brought 4,700 attendees, of those, the majority were likely overnight visitors spending about $120 per day, patronizing local restaurants and businesses. Since last year’s games, the Civic Center has been working hard to improve the experience for teams and spectators by installing a new sound system, east-end bleachers, score table, lockers, and better court-side seating for players.
