North Dakota’s Republican leaders praised President Trump’s first address to Congress on March 4, 2025, while Democrats expressed concerns about his policies. Rep. Julie Fedorchak and Sen. John Hoeven lauded Trump’s vision for energy independence and border security. Gov. Kelly Armstrong stated Trump has made “significant progress” by “bringing common sense back to America.” North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn countered that Trump’s policies would increase healthcare costs and household prices. Minnesota DFL Executive Director Heidi Kraus Kaplan warned of health insurance losses and trade war impacts. During the speech, some Democratic representatives left in protest, while others occasionally applauded Trump’s remarks.
