The Jamestown Sun reports that The Jamestown Choralaires men’s chorus is celebrating its 70th anniversary with special concerts this Friday and Saturday at St. James Basilica. Founded in 1955 by four men who recruited about 40 local singers, the group will perform songs from their first-ever concert as part of the celebration. “It is a joy to share the concert with other male voices from the University of Jamestown’s Cantus and the men from the Jamestown High School Choir,” said Ron Hildahl, the group’s president. The Choralaires’ membership has always included men from diverse professions. Two current members, Larry Hoffman and Roger Caine, have sung with the group for 66 and 52 years respectively. The chorus has been directed by Pam Burkhardt since 1997. Throughout its history, the group has performed across North Dakota, hosted regional “Big Sing” events, and even served as the North Dakota Governor’s Chorus in 1995. Tickets for the anniversary concerts are $12 for adults and $5 for students.
