Laser targets North Dakota Army National Guard helicopter

A laser targeted a National guard Helicopter in Fargo Thursday night. As first reported by KVRR, A North Dakota Army National Guard helicopter crew reported being targeted by a green laser Thursday night near Hector International Airport in Fargo. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident occurred around 9 p.m. involving a Sikorsky UH-72 Lakota helicopter based in Fargo. Local authorities have been notified and are investigating the incident. Individuals who shine lasers at aircraft face serious consequences, including fines up to $11,000 per violation, potentially reaching $30,800 for multiple incidents. Violators may also face federal criminal penalties of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, in addition to state and local penalties. The FAA reported that pilots nationwide experienced 12,840 laser strikes last year.
