Moorhead law firm challenges Trump

Trump has been striking down on law firms. A small Moorhead criminal defense firm, Ringstrom DeKrey, has joined over 800 law firms signing an amicus brief challenging President Trump’s recent executive orders targeting “rogue law firms.” Partner Dane DeKrey says the decision wasn’t political but based on constitutional principles. The orders, which began in March, punish firms like Washington-based WilmerHale for representing clients Trump deems disagreeable, employing former special counsel Robert Mueller, and promoting diversity efforts. The executive orders suspend security clearances, bar access to government buildings, and terminate government contracts with targeted firms. DeKrey warns these actions threaten the Sixth Amendment right to legal representation: “When they call out and no one answers for fear of retribution from the government which is targeting them, it’s a vicious cycle.” The amicus brief argues Trump’s actions violate First, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment guarantees and separation-of-powers principles.
