WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 10: Republican members of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, including Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), hold a news conference to present preliminary findings into their investigation into President Joe Biden's family during a news conference at the U.S. Capitol on May 10, 2023 in Washington, DC. The committee presented bank records they claim are examples of influence peddling by members of the Biden family. Committee member Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said that the Department of Justice "needs to get off its ass" and investigate the Biden family. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)
North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong is requesting $2.35 million for security enhancements to the governor’s residence, which was built just eight years ago. The proposal includes $1.6 million for a new fence and landscaping plus $750,000 for a driveway extension. Office of Management and Budget Director Joe Morrissette explained the updates were anticipated when budget constraints forced reductions during the original construction. The current fence sits very close to the 3,700-square-foot mansion, providing minimal yard space, while the driveway extends just over 100 feet from the main road. The proposal would significantly increase the property’s secure perimeter. Lawmakers are considering the request in House Bill 1015, with neither chamber making changes to the governor’s proposal so far. The only security breach occurred in 2022 when a trespasser entered the grounds but did not access the residence or encounter then-Governor Doug Burgum.
