Former West Fargo principal to plead guilty to child sex crimes

David Preston George, 40, former principal of West Fargo’s Independence Elementary, signed a federal plea agreement on Tuesday admitting to exchanging child sexual abuse material and transporting a minor to South Dakota with intent to sexually abuse them. Prosecutors will recommend a 40-year sentence, though he faces between 10 years and life imprisonment. The charges stem from George’s August 2023 arrest after investigators discovered he shared images of children as young as 5 through Instagram. Earlier state charges were dismissed in favor of federal prosecution. George, who worked for West Fargo schools since 2013 and became principal just weeks before his arrest, will have his plea hearing May 28 in Fargo while remaining in custody at Minnesota’s Sherburne County Jail.
