North Dakota’s pay for teachers is among the ten lowest paying states in the country. North Dakota has fallen to 40th place for teacher salaries nationwide, down from 37th last year, according to new National Education Association data. The average North Dakota teacher now earns $58,581, a 3.24% increase from last year that fails to keep pace with inflation, reducing educators’ purchasing power. “This is a troubling trend,” said ND United President Nick Archuleta, as the state continues to see a teacher shortage. He urged lawmakers to address salary concerns before adjourning, aligning with recommendations from the state’s Teacher Retention and Recruitment Task Force, calling for maximization of teacher benefits.
