Mark Watne has announced he will not seek a thirteenth term as North Dakota Farmers Union president after leading the organization since 2013. During his tenure, Watne also headed Farmers Union Insurance and Farmers Union Service Association. In a written statement, he spoke about the importance of developing new leadership, saying “It is time to let a new generation of capable people step forward and lead us into the future of agriculture.” Watne’s 26-year career with the union included various roles from county president to state board member and staff executive director before assuming the presidency.
