As first reported by the Jamestown Sun, several parks have been given funds to replace the old pedestrian bridges. The Jamestown City Council unanimously approved awarding a $2.5 million bid to Industrial Builders Inc. on Monday to replace three historic pedestrian bridges in Klaus, McElroy, and Nickeus parks. The city’s share of approximately $490,000 will be funded through a citywide special assessment, with federal funds covering about 81% of eligible costs. The bridges at Klaus and Nickeus parks date back to 1908-1909, while the McElroy Park bridge was built after 1957. Councilman David Steele said that replacing these structures “is something that needs to be taken care of.” In related business, the council also approved bids totaling $3.7 million for water main replacement projects throughout the city, with funding assistance expected from multiple sources including the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and a potential USDA grant of up to $2.35 million for stormwater infrastructure.
