We’ve hit the REAL ID deadline, heres what to expect at the airport

By Payton Gall May 7, 2025 | 8:24 AM

Today is the deadline for people over 18 to have a REAL ID for air travel, as required by TSA. Air travelers without REAL ID are still able to board flights as of today, but additional forms of identification and extra security checks may be needed, as officials warn that these travelers should carve out extra time to get through security. TSA has not specifically stated what extra screening is needed, however, some travelers without REAL ID received a stern flyer after passing through security, urging them to comply with requirements. Fox 9 reports that Minneapolis-Saint Paul airport security lines are not currently experiencing backups.

How to get a REAL ID in North Dakota:
First, make an appointment at your local DMV, and make sure to have all required information.

Documents needed:

  1. Proof of identification (birth certificate, unexpired passport)
  2. Proof of name change (if applicable)
  3. Proof of Social Security Number (Social Security Card, W-2)
  4. Proof of North Dakota residence address (tax statement, utility bills, etc.)

To book an appointment and find more information about REAL ID, visit the NDDOT website.
