A car chase that started in Bismarck ended in Jamestown on Saturday. A car attempted to evade a ND Highway Patrol trooper while driving recklessly eastbound on I-94. At around 8am on Saturday, the Jamestown Police Department received a request to help intercept the car. The vehicle, a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo, took the 257 exit and drove through residential areas in SW Jamestown. JPD officers and Stutsman County Sheriff’s deputies engaged in pursuit of the vehicle after it fled through an intersection, almost striking another motorist.

The chase continued at high speeds through Business Loop West, turning onto 1st Ave S heading northbound, when a trooper tried deploying tire deflation devices, which the driver avoided. The car continued to escape through southeast Jamestown. As the vehicle was driving east on 10th St. SE, at the 7th Ave SE intersection, the driver ran a red light, striking a GMC Sierra pickup, which was being driven by a Jamestown resident. The vehicles came to a stop in the 1000th block of 7th Ave SE, and the driver of the fleeing vehicle was revealed to be 18-year-old Jamie Raye Barnes of Bismarck, who tried to escape on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

The car also contained 2 male passengers and one female passenger, all Bismarck minors. Barnes and one male passenger were taken to JRMC for minor injuries. Further investigation found that Barnes had fled from Bismarck law enforcement the prior evening and that the vehicle had been stolen. Barnes was arrested by JPD on suspicion of Felony Reckless Endangerment, driving with a suspended license, Possession of Stolen Property, and an infraction for Possession of Marijuana. He also faces more charges from other agencies involved.
