A childcare provider from Jamestown has been taken into custody by the Jamestown Police Department after police completed their investigation into reports of child abuse. The charges stem from a report on April 29 that a 6-month-old child suffered a spiral fracture of the arm while under the care of 55-year-old Deborah E. Jespersen, who did not have proper child care licensure, as it had previously been revoked. A spiral arm fracture is caused by a twisting force applied to the bone, according to Cleveland Clinic. Jespersen has been hit with a felony child abuse charge, and a charge for providing early childhood services without a license. She is currently held in the Stutsman County Correctional Center pending formal charges; SCCC informed KSJB she currently has no legal representation. KSJB reached out to Jamestown Police Department for comment, but none was provided at this time. Her first court appearance is planned for Monday at 2pm.
