After finishing off the Golden State Warriors in 5 Games, the Minnesota Timberwolves had to play the waiting to game to see who their opponent would be for the Western Conference Finals as Oklahoma City and Denver battled to seven games in their series.
It took seven games, but the Oklahoma City Thunder would prevail, dominating the Denver Nuggets 125-93 in a lobsided Game 7.
Now the waiting is over, and for the second straight year, the Minnesota Timberwolves are just 4 wins away from their first NBA Finals appearance in Franchise history. The Wolves will try to right their wrongs from last years attempt after being dominated by the Dallas Mavericks who at the time had Luca Doncic and a healthy Kyrie Irving.
The Wolves will have a much different opponent compared to last season’s attempt. Oklahoma City features a young, talented, and deep team full of consistent contributors and playmakers. To go with their offensive success, OKC also was one of the strongest defensive teams in the league. The team is Highlighted by MVP Candidate and Favorite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who finished off the Nuggets with 35 points in Game 7 as well as Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, and Alex Caruso.
Oklahoma City also finished the season on the highest note possible with the best record in the NBA and the number 1 seed in the Western Conference playoff bracket.
Despite the achievements the Timberwolves played the Thunder tough this season, splitting the regular season series 2-2, most notably, in the fourth game when the Timberwolves came back from a huge deficit to win the game in overtime 131-128 with a game sealing block from Anthony Edwards on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Both teams feature a future face of the NBA, and both teams are hungry for their first title in team history, the series is poised with playmakers shining bright on the biggest stage, and tough defense.
Game 1 will be this Tuesday in Oklahoma City.
