The North Dakota Wildlife Federation is raising concerns about proposed federal budget cuts that could impact the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center in Jamestown. The Trump administration has proposed a $564 million cut to the U.S. Geological Survey, potentially threatening the center’s future. John Bradley, the federation’s executive director, has urged conservation groups to contact Congress to preserve funding. Retired researcher Gary Krapu reports that downsizing has already begun with staff departures. The internationally renowned center, established in 1965, employs about 40 people and has conducted vital research on migratory waterfowl, wolves, pollinators, and invasive species. With annual federal funding of $7-10 million, it serves as a significant economic driver for Jamestown while contributing valuable scientific data for wildlife management and conservation efforts.
