Michigan Farm Bureau committees have begun their annual policy development process, with USDA staffing emerging as a top concern. With nearly 100,000 employees in over 4,500 global locations, the MFB is urging members to evaluate current policy and consider updates that would enhance the department’s workforce and service capabilities.
The American Farm Bureau Federation’s existing policy already supports a review of USDA staffing and training at all levels. Now, the MFB is encouraging members to think critically about how that policy might be improved.
Questions posed to guide the discussion include how USDA can attract and retain skilled workers amid budget constraints, the role of technology in addressing staffing shortages, and how partnerships with schools and communities might strengthen the talent pipeline in underserved areas. Members are invited to submit ideas and contribute to shaping future policy.
