Linton woman named Heather Caras had been missing since a report was filed on January 24th, 2025. Friends and family of the 39-year-old woman posted on social media over the weekend that her body had been recovered. KSJB Local News reached out to Emmons County Sheriff Gary Sanders to confirm these reports. Sanders revealed to KSJB that the office was “notified of a partially decomposed adult female body discovered by a local producer in his harvested corn field” at approximately 11:07 a.m. on Sunday. Members of the Emmons County Sheriff’s Office and Special Agents of the ND Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene, according to the release. The identity and cause of death have not been confirmed due to the ongoing investigation, but the body was discovered approximately 2.5 miles from where Heather Caras’ vehicle was found abandoned with the keys in the ignition near Beaver Bay months earlier on January 25th.  The body has been transported to the ND Medical Examiner’s Office in Grand Forks, pending autopsy later this week. Deputies also say it’s likely Caras initially left willingly with someone she knew.
