Congresswoman Fedorchak fights back after DHS wrongly labels seven counties as immigration ‘sanctuaries’

The Department of Homeland Security labeled seven North Dakota counties as “sanctuary jurisdictions” for allegedly not cooperating with federal immigration enforcement. Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak strongly disputed this designation, calling it untrue and noting that North Dakota has strict laws requiring cooperation with federal authorities.

The affected counties – Billings, Golden Valley, Grant, Morton, Ramsey, Sioux and Slope – along with the North Dakota Sheriff’s and Deputies Association, rejected the characterization, stating they work closely with ICE and Border Patrol on immigration matters. DHS has since removed the report from their website.

Fedorchak said local sheriffs support the Trump administration’s border policies and regularly coordinate with federal agencies. She called the designation a “flawed study” and is seeking answers from Homeland Security about their criteria for the classification.
