A North Dakota man who gained national fame by playing football at 49 years old has been charged with sexual assault, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.
Richland County prosecutors say they have charged Ray Ruschel of Wahpeton with felony gross sexual imposition, with charging documents claiming his slept with a woman who was sleeping against her will.
Court documents show the woman claims she woke up with Ruschel taking off her clothes and also having sex with her. She claims she tried to fight him off during the assault.
Rushcel’s arrest warrant was issued after DNA evidence linked him to the assault. He has denied the charges.
Ruschel was profiled by ESPN and other national outlets in 2023 when he gained notoriety by playing football while 49-years-old at the North Dakota State College of Science while serving in the National Guard.
If convicted, Rushel faces a minimum sentence of five years probation with a requirement to register as a sex offender.
