North Dakota will implement new Feather Alerts and Missing Endangered Persons Alerts starting August 1st to help locate missing Native Americans and adults aged 18-65. The alerts were announced during the state’s Government-to-Government conference Thursday. Feather Alerts will specifically target missing Indigenous community members, while Missing Endangered Persons Alerts will cover abducted adults between 18-65, filling a gap in the current system. Phone alerts will only be used in abduction cases, with other methods like social media used for non-abduction situations. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Jayme Davis, passed with overwhelming support. Officials noted that 90% of current Amber Alerts in North Dakota involve missing Native children, and 83 of 86 missing persons from tribal lands this year have been found.
