A 24-year-old man, Eric Johnson, is charged with attempted murder after a shooting and high-speed chase in rural Ransom County on Friday, June 6th. The incident began when Johnson allegedly fired three rounds from an AK-47-style rifle at a man who came to help rescue a cat at Johnson’s farm. One bullet hit the victim’s vehicle. Johnson then pursued the victim in a high-speed chase on gravel roads, using a PIT maneuver at 80 mph to force the victim off the road before firing another shot. Police discovered Johnson was driving a stolen 1992 Acura NSX that had been missing since 2024 and involved in previous chases. Johnson’s bond was set at $100,000, and he faces four to 20 years if convicted.
