Inforum reports that Cass County Vector Control is warning residents to prepare for increased mosquito activity following weeks of significant rainfall, coinciding with North Dakota’s first confirmed case of West Nile virus this year. The department is monitoring what could be a severe first wave of floodwater mosquitoes, which are common this time of year and surge with additional rainfall after delayed wet conditions in 2025. Residents are advised to use DEET repellent for protection, while yard foggers are recommended for rural areas as adult mosquitoes emerge and create problems.
