A North Dakota couple has been sentenced for illegally harvesting a trophy mule deer buck in southeast Montana. Justin Wiseman of Sentinel Butte set up an illegal bait site with a trail camera and tree stand north of Plevna in September 2022 to attract and track game animals. His wife later harvested a large mule deer buck in November 2022 without a license, with Justin providing his tag. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks discovered the violation through social media posts showing the wife posing with the buck. The Wisemans received $300 fines, suspended six-month jail sentences, must pay $8,000 restitution for the trophy buck, and lost their hunting, fishing, and trapping privileges for two years.
