As first reported by Jeff Beach from the the North Dakota Monitor, North Dakota legislative staff quickly removed lawmakers’ home addresses from the Legislature’s website Saturday following the fatal shooting of two Minnesota legislators.

Legislative Council Director John Bjornson made the decision Saturday morning after learning about the shootings that killed one Minnesota legislator and seriously wounded another. IT staff were able to remove address information from legislators’ biographies and contact pages immediately.

The suspect, Vance Boelter, was arrested Sunday and reportedly had a target list including the victims and other Democratic officials from Minnesota and Wisconsin.

A longer-term policy regarding legislator information will be discussed at next week’s Legislative Management Committee meeting. While candidates must provide addresses to show district eligibility, some use post office boxes for public records.
