The Trump administration has directed immigration authorities to scale back workplace raids targeting sectors like agriculture, hospitality, and meatpacking—industries that heavily rely on immigrant labor.
This shift reportedly came from President Trump himself after realizing the broad scope of aggressive enforcement pushed by the White House. While raids will be reduced, investigations into serious crimes such as human trafficking will continue. Trump also signaled plans to issue a formal order addressing concerns from the farm and hotel industries about losing experienced workers due to immigration sweeps.
Although the new directive aims to ease pressure on industries dependent on immigrant labor, skepticism remains. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had recently ramped up enforcement, detaining even non-criminal undocumented immigrants, sparking backlash from Democrats and some Republicans.
