A man who barricaded himself inside a Jamestown home for over 12 hours Wednesday faces multiple felony charges in Stutsman County Court.

Jacob Lee Schmitt faces six felony and two misdemeanor counts including terrorizing, firearm possession, preventing arrest, child neglect, and drug charges after a standoff at 1818 Western Park Village.

A woman called police early June 18th saying Schmitt was threatening her and she feared for her life. Court documents show Schmitt had arrived days earlier and refused to leave the home where a woman and four children were present.

The woman told officers Schmitt had been heavily using drugs and hadn’t slept for four days, allegedly threatening to “burn her on a cross” and calling her a witch. When police arrived, Schmitt barricaded himself in a bedroom with a 2-year-old while three other children and the woman escaped safely.

During the 12-hour standoff, Schmitt never fed or changed the toddler’s diaper. The Special Operations Team safely removed the child and arrested Schmitt at 12:45 p.m. Officers found drug paraphernalia on him. EMS evaluated the child and released him to his mother.
