Devils Lake Native, Nelson Earns Dakota Award

After finishing up his collegiate career at Alabama and possibly waiting for a call from the NBA in the leagues upcoming draft, Grant Nelson keeps making headlines in North Dakota.

The Devils Lake native, and former NDSU Bison who transferred to Nate Oat’s program at Alabama received an award given to North Dakotans who excel outside of state lines, the Dakota Award.

The award was given by the North Dakota Associate Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, after Nelson finished up his career at Alabama with an appearance in the Final Four and Elite 8.

During his time with Alabama Nelson Averaged 11.5 points per game as well as 7 rebounds and 1.6 assists. And during his final season with the Bison Nelson averaged 17.9 points per game, 9.3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Nelson, according to projections is predicted to be drafted in the late first round to second round in the NBA’s upcoming draft on June 25th.
