State of North Dakota to Address Poor Roads in Rural Communities

By Ryan King Jun 19, 2025 | 8:00 AM

The State of North Dakota is addressing a key challenge in rural farming communities—poor infrastructure—by expanding its agriculture infrastructure grant program.

North Dakota lawmakers widened eligibility to include towns with fewer than 1,500 residents, aiming to improve roads and bridges that are often in disrepair and difficult for farmers to use.

Rob Schmidt, Oliver County Commission chairman and rancher, praised the move, noting how deteriorated roads slow travel and increase wear on vehicles, believing the grants could boost the region’s appeal to both residents and businesses.
