North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread is urging residents to quickly assess storm damage and file insurance claims following Friday’s deadly tornadoes and severe weather. The storms killed three people near Enderlin and caused widespread destruction across the state.
Godfread advises residents to immediately check their property for damage, photograph everything before making repairs, and secure their homes to prevent further harm. He warns against out-of-state contractors demanding cash or full payment upfront, recommending residents get three written estimates and work with their insurance companies. Jamestown residents may see signs recently put up around town by these contractors.
The Insurance Department is available at 701-328-2440 for questions, with additional resources at insurance.nd.gov/storm. Officials stress the importance of documenting all damage and keeping receipts and correspondence related to insurance claims.
