The U.S. Senate continues to debate President Donald Trump’s tax cuts and spending bill, that’s aiming to be passed by July 4th.

The bill will seek to prevent expiration of the 2017 tax cuts, make key tax provisions permanent, and cut $1.1 trillion in spending—primarily affecting Medicaid and SNAP.

The legislation also includes measures for small businesses, biofuel tax credits, and an expanded farm safety net with $67 billion in changes over 10 years. These include higher payment limits, increased support for crop insurance and dairy, and expanded base acre enrollment.

While the bill has drawn support for its ag provisions and biofuel credits, it’s also stirred controversy due to major cuts to food aid and Medicaid, With two Republican senators having already opposed the bill, citing impacts on hospitals and rural services.
