North Dakota drivers will be under increased speed limit scrutiny this month.
The state’s ‘Speeding Slows You Down’ campaign began this morning and runs through August 4th. All law enforcement agencies in North Dakota will be conducting what they describe as high-visibility patrols and enforcement to ensure drivers are adhering to posted speed limits.
The campaign is part of Vision Zero, the state’s traffic safety initiative with a goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
North Dakota’s interstate speed limit will increase from 75 to 80 miles per hour on August 1, after legislation passed this spring.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says speeding played a role in 25% of fatal crashes in the state during 2023, the last full-year studied.
