North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced that $300,000 in grant funding is available for drone-based detection of noxious and invasive weeds, particularly amaranth species and waterhemp.
The initiative, authorized by the 69th Legislative Assembly, targets sugar beet and soybean fields in Steele, Traill, Cass, Richland, and Barnes counties during the 2025 and 2026 growing seasons.
Grant recipients will help build a library of drone imagery to better distinguish between amaranth species, with field locations kept confidential at the county level.
Interested applicants can find full details and apply online at ndda.nd.gov/uasgrant. Applications must be submitted electronically by 12 p.m. CDT on July 10, 2025.
