New Wheat Cleaning Facility in South Dakota

By Ryan King Jul 3, 2025 | 7:54 AM

Sioux Nation in Fort Pierre, South Dakota, has unveiled a new indoor wheat cleaning facility, a project five years in the making aimed at improving product quality, efficiency, and the ability to adopt new technologies.

The facility significantly boosts wheat processing capacity—from 3,000 to 20,000 bushels—and can clean about 800 bushels per hour. Once cleaned, the wheat moves to their treatment facility to become a finished product.

The new plant complements Sioux Nation’s existing oat, flax, and barley processing capabilities and marks their first permanent wheat-specific facility. The company, now rebranding its seed products under the name Drake Seed, is working with about a dozen certified wheat growers.
